Letters: 7 Months Old (photos coming)

Luke...

Sheesh, time is flying! Seven months old! Holy cow, you're in milestone haven right now -- and we're on the verge of so much development... what an exciting time to be your mommy!

When last we documented your progress, there was some grumbling on our part about your sleeping habits. Well, had had to have a come-to-jeezus night, Luke. We're not sure what exactly happened, but one night soon after your cold was gone, you were up about four times in one night--looking for the same attention you got during the last wheezy/sneezy cold of yours. Understandably! About 4am, your dad and I were feeling a bit hysterical... (well, I'm not sure your dad has ever been "hysterical," per se), but we knew we had done our part to create this little mess of you expecting snuggles at 3am. As much as we love snuggling with you, well, we like sleeping better at this point. So, after some serious determination on both our and your part.... you finally fell asleep, without the snuggles. Sad! But oooohhhhh, the silence is so golden. The crazy thing is, since that mostly horrific night, you have been back to your original dream sleeper-mode. YEA, LUKE!

Sleeping or not sleeping through the night, you are such a happy boy come daylight (well, more like dawn-- you're an early riser). From the moment we walk in your room in the morning (again, can you call 6am "morning"?), you are all smiles. As soon as we get about a foot from the bottle cupboard, though, you're squirming your way out of our arms and flinging yourself towards what will be your yummy bottle, and making all kinds of desperate noises that has me wondering if we forgot to feed you the day before. You have leaped out of my arms once already (landing, I hate to say, on your head. But we don't have to go into that little incident. I don't want to give you a complex.)--and by golly, it's not going to happen again... which is hard to prevent! You are a mover, and it's impossible to keep you from doing otherwise! The desperation for the bottle or the food that's on its way towards your mouth is pretty hilarious. Sheesh! It's a major workout. We've decided that you're just not a 'half-way' kind of guy. If you're happy -- lookout world! Luke's happy! And if you're hungry... well, lookout world, Luke is HUNGRY!... You are intense, ma boy. This will bode well for you in much of life's adventures. Determination gets people places, dude. And you've got it!

You're sitting up very well -- and only every once in a while do you flop backwards now, smacking your head on the soft thing that I precariously place within a foot of all sides of you. (Again, you don't just mosey on back, you FLING YOURSELF backwards....) And then the rolling around whichever room we place you in is hilarious to watch. You can move, and move fast!

What else? Some random tid-bits for you: We finally got your six month pictures taken -- by daddy and mama, thank you very much. We're no professionals, but you're so darn cute it was a piece of cake. You're now hanging with your Auntie Kate a few days week, and when she walks in the door in the morning, you give her big grins. You guys are digging each other. Your sister, you, and I went to the zoo last week, and you sat in the front of the double-stroller, happy as a little clam the entire time. I attached some pics cause you were digging the camera that day...

Oh, and I think you should know that people seem to think you're HUGE... you are a chunk-o love, bubs; but according to the growth charts, you're remaining at about 75th percentile on height, and between the 50th and 60th in weight. People don't believe me when I tell them that; they're sure I've got the stats turned around -- but it's true. I think it might be because you have some seriously broad shoulders (as the woman who had to push those shoulders out of a very small part of my body, I can attest to their girth). So, there's some speculation about your future football career or something? I mean, hey - if that's what you're good at and what you love-- then go for it! But, I'm not sure your dad and I will know quite what to do with ourselves if we made a football player. We'll cheer you on -- we'll be your biggest fans, for sure -- but in terms of throwing the football around in the back yard? We may have to do some recruiting for that.

Whatever it is that's in your future - we're with you. Go for it! Make those movements towards crawling! You can do it! Keep scooting along the floor! Wowsa! Keep plopping those cheerios in your mouth, pretty soon you'll get some in there! Keep pulling yourself up to standing! Yeah! Wow! Holy cow! It's easy to say: You are quite amazing to us, Lukey.

We love you.
Your biggest fans,
Mama (and Daddy)
