the birthday girl

(I wrote this a while ago, and am just now getting to putting this up here... with pics!)

Oh boy. This is sort of tough to write right now, because (you little bugger) have just gotten a time out for hitting mommy. Whooeeeeee! "Testing" is taking on new meaning. Your Gramma (and your auntie) said to me, "three is just two with attitude." Yes indeeedie do, you turned three and it was like an internal light switch. The day before you've never dared such an act...but you turn three, and voila! Let's just see what mommy will do if I do THIS! But how can I complain? Your last three years have been so carefree with you our little "by the book" sweet pea that I am now realizing how silly I was not to think that we maybe had this coming. :)

You spent your third birthday having several parties, with all kinds of wonderful people. First, you shared a birthday with your cousin Jackson up at the cabin. The Dora and Diego balloons did end up in the trees (and then somewhere in space), which brought on some serious tears, but it was all soon forgotten once the presents were being opened. You love spending time with your cousins!

The day-of your birthday mommy put in a request to our favorite morning show, and got a little birthday request for you on the air! That was cool! A fun way to start off your next year...

And we topped off your actual birthday by having all your neighbor buds over for cupcakes that you and Daddy made, along with hanging out with Gramma "K" and Grampa Lenny. Check out the baked goods. And fun neighbor boys! (You're one of two girls on the block, and she has yet to tire of your constant idolizing!) You got some good bonding in with Grampa Lenny, reading some of your new books! And, you got to chat with Aunt Molly in South Korea.

You also got a special party at Gramma Connie's cause Uncle Tony was in town! You weren't so fond of the ceremonial birthday song, but you managed to get through ok, including the Zimney "chant" at the end that has already become a fun part of each of our birthdays.

Maren, we couldn't possibly express the joy we feel as we watch you grow and explore and become such a bright and sassy little girl. You are already so smart and so gorgeous that I suddenly understand when parents say things like, "no dating until you're 30." Hahaha. Thank God you're three... now only if we could keep you this little forever.

We love you punkin pie. Keep growing, keep adventuring, keep testing, keep asking, keep singing, keep dancing, keep imagining!... keep being the wonderful little one that you are.

Mama and Daddy
