Girls Night!

I've never thought of myself as a "girly-girl." I am now going on month five since I last got my hair cut (granted, this is a record of some sort for me). It's a rare thing for me to indulge myself. I find myself resonating with all the women on those make-over shows who forget to put make-up on in the morning and find themselves at the end of the day not having gone to the bathroom cause they were running around after kiddies... sad, but true.

Maren, on the other hand, has taken a serious interest in my sole make-up drawer. She tells people their clothes are "so beautiful," and asks about the "pretty girl" who walks by us on the street. I'm desperately trying to keep her away from all things princess... but tonight, Maren and I had the sweetest little girls night, which has rejuvenated my girly spirit.

After I put Lukey down for the night, Maren was poking around our bathroom upstairs in my make-up drawer, and kept asking to try this or that... well, I decided to indulge both of us with a little mani-pedi time. (I bought a little manicure set at an Avon lady show I got suckered into last year...) It was so fun! We washed our feet in the sink and lathered up our hands and toes. I even took 10 minutes to do a facial mask while Maren watched in a combination of amazement and just a titch of fear. She kept saying, "ok, Mommy, wash it off now..." Like I said, I'm not a girly-girl; but I would repeat my time tonight with Maren any time.
