Maren's preschool adventure

So, because I wasn't there to be with Maren on her first day of preschool and Andy was (which was cool for him!) - there are no pictures. Why is it that Dads just don't have that picture instinct? - the constant desire to capture it on film?! I am bummed about this... but I am telling myself to let it go.... let it go.... LET IT GO!

The good news is that, in this second year of preschool, Maren is blossoming. The drop-offs have been surprisingly painless and happy - all because of one Ms. Sue.

Ms. Sue! She is famous in the preschool world, and there's a reason for it - I just can't seem to quite capture it in words. I think it's just better to tell you about what they do.

Day #1 - The learned the song Three Little Birds (from Bob Marley) and all about dreadlocks. Maren came home and said to me, "Mom, those are dreadlocks, but (giggle, giggle) you can call them 'dreds'!"

That's freaking cool.

Day #3 - I got to do the drop off and didn't have to rush off to work so I was able to see the beginning of class. The second the music came on, ALL of the kids - and I mean ALL of them - came rushing over and sat quietly in front of Ms. Sue to see what she would do... and they started playing this song:

Let me just say that there was arm movements; there was loud singing; there was giggling; and there was total attention and love for what was going on there. I nearly burst into tears.

Day #5 - or whatever it was - Maren learned the song Moonshadow by Cat Stevens and told me all about how he changed his name. (She now knows more about Cat Stevens than I do.)

So last night, Maren danced around the living room singing these three songs over and over and over again for nearly two hours. Happily. She knows all the words, and to her there is so much meaning connected to these songs. I will get a video of it soon, I promise.

How wonderful to open kids up to new ideas through music.

Preschool rocks.
